The Diet I Follow

Okay, let’s talk about diet today. This is the diet that I personally follow 90% of the time (when I’m not eating out :P). It’s actually super easy and flexible. It gives me a lot of energy, mental clarity and focus, stable happy mood, not bloated, not tired, no cravings, and I lose unwanted weight. This is just a general outline, I will put in more details in another post about diet and lifestyle recommendations.

What is the Primal Diet?

The primal diet is a nutritional approach based on the presumed diet of our ancestors, focusing on whole, unprocessed foods. It’s similar to the paleo diet but with a few key differences. The primal diet emphasizes ancestral eating patterns combined with modern nutritional science to promote optimal health, energy, and longevity.

Key Principles of the Primal Diet:

  • Whole, Unprocessed Foods: Focus on foods that are natural, organic, and minimally processed.
  • High-Quality Animal Products: Includes grass-fed meats, wild-caught fish, pasture-raised eggs, and organ meats.
  • Healthy Fats: Encourages sources like avocado, olive oil, coconut oil, nuts, and seeds.
  • Low-Carb, Nutrient-Dense Vegetables: Non-starchy vegetables are prioritized for fibre and micronutrients.
  • Moderation of Fruits: Focuses on berries and low-sugar fruits.
  • Fermented Foods: Supports gut health with foods like sauerkraut, kimchi, and kefir.
  • Optional Dairy: Unlike the paleo diet, the primal diet allows for high-quality, full-fat, raw, or fermented dairy (e.g., yogurt, cheese) if tolerated.
  • Minimal Grains and Legumes: Avoids or greatly limits grains, refined sugars, and industrial seed oils.

Scientific Evidence Behind the Primal Diet’s Benefits

✅ Chronic Pain and Illnesses
Research has shown that a diet rich in anti-inflammatory foods, like those found in the primal diet, can reduce symptoms of chronic conditions such as arthritis and fibromyalgia. Healthy fats, such as omega-3s from wild-caught fish, help reduce inflammation, while eliminating processed foods prevents further aggravation of the body. A study published in The Journal of Pain Research found that patients with chronic pain who followed an anti-inflammatory diet experienced significant pain reduction.

✅ Injury Recovery
The primal diet, rich in proteins, collagen, and antioxidants, supports tissue repair and reduces inflammation—essential for faster recovery from injuries. According to The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, adequate protein intake and omega-3 fatty acids are critical for muscle repair and reducing downtime. When paired with acupuncture treatments in Hamilton / Cambridge, this approach accelerates healing.

✅ Fertility Support for Men and Women
The primal diet supports reproductive health by balancing hormones and improving egg and sperm quality. Nutrients such as zinc, omega-3s, and vitamin D from whole foods are vital for fertility. A study published in Human Reproduction showed that men following a nutrient-dense diet rich in antioxidants had significantly improved sperm quality. Similarly, women with balanced blood sugar levels from low-carb, whole-food diets had better ovulation outcomes. Combined with fertility acupuncture in Hamilton / Cambridge, this approach can optimize reproductive outcomes.

✅ Mental Health and Emotional Well-being
The primal diet also plays a crucial role in mental well-being by stabilizing blood sugar levels and supporting brain function. Healthy fats from avocados, nuts, and wild-caught fish are essential for cognitive health. A study in The Lancet Psychiatry found that people following whole-food, anti-inflammatory diets experienced a 33% reduction in depressive symptoms.

Common Foods in the Primal Diet:

  • Proteins: Grass-fed beef, wild-caught salmon, pasture-raised eggs, organ meats
  • Fats: Avocados, coconut oil, olive oil, nuts, and seeds
  • Vegetables: Leafy greens, broccoli, asparagus, cauliflower
  • Fruits: Berries, apples, and citrus (in moderation)
  • Fermented Foods: Yogurt, kefir, sauerkraut
  • Herbs and Spices: Natural seasonings without additives
